3. Baptism means to immerse or submerge something into water.
907 baptizo { bap-tid’-zo}
wash 2, baptist 1, baptized 1) to dip, to immerse, to submerge (of vessels sunk) 3) to overwhelm
The clearest example that shows the meaning of baptizo is a text from the Greek poet and physician Nicander, who lived about 200 B.C. It is a recipe for making pickles and is helpful because it uses both words.
Nicander says that in order to make a pickle, the vegetable should first be ‘dipped’ (bapto) into boiling water and then ‘baptized’ (baptizo) in the vinegar solution. Both verbs concern the immersing of vegetables in a solution. But the first is temporary. The second, the act of baptizing the vegetable, produces a permanent change.

Luke 2:21-22
21And when eight days were accomplished for the circumcising of the child, his name was called JESUS, which was so named of the angel before he was conceived in the womb. 22And when the days of her purification according to the law of Moses were accomplished, they brought him to Jerusalem, to present him to the Lord; (Jesus is not baptized as an infant)

5. Jesus was baptized as an adult.
Matthew 3:13-16
13Then Jesus came from Galilee to John at the Jordan to be baptized by him. 14And John tried to prevent Him, saying, “I need to be baptized by You, and are You coming to me?” 15But Jesus answered and said to him, “Permit it to be so now, for thus it is fitting for us to fulfill all righteousness.” Then he allowed Him. 16When He had been baptized, Jesus came up immediately from the water; and behold, the heavens were opened to Him, and He saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting upon Him.
Why do some churches baptize infants?
church tradition. When we follow traditions that are not in the bible, we are no longer following the bible. God speaks to us through His bible. The bible tells us that even Jesus was baptized as a grown man. Everyone who is ever baptized in the bible understood, believed, and then they were baptized.
How can an infant believe with their whole heart? (Acts 18:8)
With an indepth search of the scripture there is no evidence of infant baptism. In support of teaching the bible accurately, we must adhere to teachings, which are repetitive and find a common thread throughout the bible as a whole.
Why should someone be baptized?
6. Jesus commands us to ‘go and make disciples and baptize them’.
Matthew 28:19 & 20
19 Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen.
When we are baptized, it tells the world we have changed our minds about sin and we belong to Jesus.
